Past Council Members

The San Gwann Council was set up in conformity to the Local Councils Act, 1993 (Act XV of 1993) which was published on 30^th June 1993. This stipulates that "The Council shall be a statutory local government authority having a distinct legal personality and capable of entering into contracts, of suing and being sued, and of doing all such things and entering into such transactions as are incidental or conducive to the exercise and performance of its functions as are allowed under the Act." The first San Gwann Council was elected on 16^th April 1994. Election for local Councilors are held every 3 years by means of the system of proportional representation using the single transferable vote. Elections are held on the second Saturday of March of each year and the Electoral Commission conducts the elections process.

First Council (1994-1997): elected 16^th April 1994
